Calculators

Financial calculators for New Zealand home buyers

Buying a home turns on three money questions that lead into each other: how much deposit a price needs, what the repayments on the rest could be, and whether keeping savings in an offset account could change the interest. These calculators take them in that order.

They are free, open to everyone, and need no account or email address. Each one explains its method, its assumptions and what it leaves out, so you can see why a figure came out as it did and why a lender’s number may differ.

What every calculator here assumes

  • All amounts are in New Zealand dollars (NZD). Starting figures are labelled as illustrative; none is a live quote or today’s market rate.
  • Results update as you type. Every field is checked, and a problem is shown next to the field rather than producing a quiet wrong answer.
  • Methods are written out in plain English and, where it matters, as formulas, along with the rounding and day-count conventions used.
  • Where a statement depends on what a regulator or a bank says, it is shown separately from our own explanation, with the source and the date it was read.
  • These calculators do arithmetic on the numbers you enter. They are not a lender’s assessment, a quote, a valuation, or financial, legal or tax advice, and they do not tell you whether you could borrow or what a lender would offer. PropertyKete does not know the price of any home from its address.

Your figures stay with you

  • The figures you type stay in this browser tab. The calculators do not send them to PropertyKete, to analytics or to anyone else, do not save them to an account, and do not put them in the page address. Reloading the page clears them.
  • Like every page on this site, these pages load the site-wide measurement tag described in our privacy policy. The calculators do not pass it your figures.
  • There is no sign-up step, no email gate and no advertising on these pages.
  • A result can be copied or downloaded as a table. That happens on your device and nothing is uploaded.

Researching a particular property?

PropertyKete does not know what a home will sell for, and the calculators do not look a price up from an address. If you are weighing up a specific property, search its address to see which public hazard and planning checks PropertyKete holds for it, then come back and test price and loan scenarios here. It is a starting point for research, not a LIM, a valuation or professional advice.
